Comparing terrestrial and photogrammetry measurements of the Potoška planina landslide
Project Overview
In October 2015 we returned to Potoška planina, along the Karawanks mountain range of the Southern Limestone Alps on the border between Slovenia and Austria, to perform the 6th measurement of the landslide.
Objectives
We had two objectives. One was to get all the data on the landslide movement we had been monitoring by employing photogrammetry and terrestrial measurements. The other was to reset a network of iron poles that had either been destroyed by the landslide or somehow displaced. We had been using these iron poles to perform classical terrestrial measurements.
They had to be replaced for us to continue running the comparison between terrestrial measurements and photogrammetry. We set up a network of ten.
This project serves as a great example of how much work needs to be done to perform terrestrial measurements. Photogrammetry, on the other hand, doesn’t need any of that additional effort. Any point or detail on an image can be observed and compared to any other image or measurement to track movements and changes.
